Who I Am

My name is MaKayla Brownlee, and I’m a singer/songwriter from southern Kansas. I’ve been writing and performing introspective, honest, and relatable songs for as long as I can remember, and I feel incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to share them with the world.

Where I Come From

I was born into a musical family, but I found my own love for music when I was seven years old and my dad invited me onstage to sing with his band for the first time. I knew from that moment that music would be my life.

At the age of 12, I started playing guitar and writing songs of my own. Through every trial, heartbreak, and season of life since, songwriting has been a built-in coping mechanism -something that has carried me through some of the hardest moments of my life. I truly believe God turned pain into purpose when He gave me the ability to write.

I’m also blessed with a family and group of friends who have believed in me, encouraged me, and stood beside me every step of the way, with God at the center of it all. I wouldn’t be where I am without each and every one of them.

My Songs

Every song you hear from me was inspired by a true story - either one I lived myself or one experienced by someone close to me. Additionally, I’d like to personally thank every guy who has ever broken my heart for the inspiration.

Musically, I’m a little bit all over the place - and I like it that way. I prefer to let the song dictate the style, not the other way around. I write from my heart and try never to stray from what I hear in my head just to fit neatly into a certain genre.

My songs are my stories. Each one carries its own meaning and purpose, and my hope is that somewhere along the way, they touch lives, strengthen faith, bring healing - and maybe serve as a gentle reminder to stay away from bad dudes.

 A Little Bit About Me

When I’m not writing or performing, I  love spending time with my friends and family. I love catching snakes at the lake, going to church, and leading worship. My favorite place to travel is Colorado and my dream venue to play is Red Rocks.

What’s Next

Right now, you can usually find me performing with my band or playing an acoustic show almost every weekend. In between shows, I continue to write songs whenever they come to me.

I’m incredibly excited for what’s ahead—to continue growing as an artist, build a community of people who connect with my music, and hopefully have the opportunity to perform my songs for a whole lot more of you.

I’m eternally grateful to everyone who has played a part in this journey. Above all, I give all the glory to God. The Lord has been my foundation through it all, and behind every success I’ll ever call my own is the God who made it possible.
